November 6, 2007high-speed discovery
November 2, 2007imagine where physics and science in general would be if we had high-speed photography 200, (or even 100) years ago.
i thought of this today after watching water bounce in my hand at the sink.
movie recommendations?
November 1, 2007I Netflix’d The Science of Sleep this week after remembering how strange it was and how much I liked it, which also lead to me remembering how much I love French directors and their attention to color and subtly strange camera work.
Anyway, I plan on staying in more in the coming weeks and I’m wondering if anyone has any other recommendations of just really GOOD movies to watch. Particularly anything French?
it’s a busy week

new email + CT Muff.
October 28, 2007there’s a place that nicole and i want to go to. it’s a few blocks over and called Connecticut Muffin. we’ve developed a strange obsession with the place though we’ve never been. we chat about it all the time and how badly we’d like to go – and have even given it our own name that we created for it: CT Muff. so today we’re going. needless to say, i’m terribly excited.
Also, I’ve decided to switch back to gmail for ease-of-use in apps on my computer. I’m now caitlinoppermann@gmail.com again. Write to me so that I may save your email/have the joy of receiving words from you.
lots of love, dear friends!

October 26, 2007
This is my good friend, Nicole.
I’m excited for winter break because I’m going to do a lot of things that I want to do and don’t have time to do now.
The list includes:
cook food. all the time.
work on getting my photoblog going.
take more photos.
drink coffee at a leisurely pace.
shoot more video.
post more video.
blog more.
make some money to spend on whatever i want.
walk around.
get some sleep.
paint and draw.
drive my car. as much as possible.
have people over to eat food that i have prepared myself.
write letters.
read cookbooks.
watch Project Runway in my own house.
wander around with my parents.
wander around with my brother.
I really look forward to these things.
I don’t look forward to missing friends and ASSSCAT.

Thinking Like A Chef.
October 14, 2007My parents are in New York today and part of Monday. They bought Think Like A Chef for me today. I am eternally grateful. We also had a talk about my education and what I truly want to pursue. It turns out that I’m looking into culinary school in addition to college (I’m in no way changing my goals as an artist/designer)…whenever I’m able to. I’m really thinking about trying to begin in June of next summer. I’ve always been really serious about preparation of food and the culinary arts and I’ve decided that I’m going to make it happen. I’m really excited. I’ve also decided to start recording some of the things that I’ve been speaking to people about regarding food. I love to talk to people about the social aspects of eating and the dynamics of conversation over a meal. I’d love to speak to you about it if you have your own thoughts to share. Have a wonderful Monday, dear readers.
Want! Colicchio! ‘Wiches!
October 12, 2007I want this book.
I do like Tom Colicchio. And chances are that you do too if you’re into his wonderful sandwich restaurant, ‘Wichcraft. If you live in New York, I know of at least three: 8th St. & Broadway, 20th & Broadway, & Bryant Park. I also happen to know that there is one at the MGM Grand, if you find yourself on the Strip in Las Vegas. I recommend the Roasted Turkey. But the entire menu is vast and delicious.
Anyway, I’d like to read this book.
